Description of the Hike

Meeting Point
The tour starts at the climbing wall on the west side of the main building at Juvasshytta, by the information boards. The glacier guides will come out about 15–30 minutes before departure, depending on the number of participants for the day’s tour.Røisheim and Jotunheimen can be the perfect setting for your wedding.

Information and Equipment
A group briefing will be given. Harnesses will be distributed and adjusted for each participant. Children use full-body harnesses, which require a bit more adjustment. The guides will organize this. Crampons will also be provided if needed.

First Section
The section of the hike ends up at the edge of the glacier. The section follows a gentle incline for approximately 2.8 km. The first break is planned at the glacier edge. Everyone should have eaten a little before the hike and have water easily accessible. Adjust your clothing once you have warmed up, and make sure to drink some fluids. The hike takes just under an hour.

Crossing the Glacier
The first break will be at the glacier edge. It is wise to consider how many layers of clothing you will wear over the glacier, as there will be no opportunity to adjust this during the glacier crossing. Everyone will receive instructions and basic information about glacier walking. Keeping the rope taut between participants is important. The crossing of the glacier takes about 50 minutes. Afterwards, on the guide’s instruction, participants will detach from the ropes and take a short break.

The Hike to the Peak
The steepest part of the hike begins with 200 meters of elevation over 1 kilometer. Most participants reach the top within 30 minutes to 1 hour. There will be a good break at the summit—remember to stop by the cabin. The glacier guides will have arranged a meeting point either at the top or back at the ropes. Follow these instructions and allow a little extra time for the descent. In poor weather, everyone ascends and descends together.
