Biking in the mountains

Summer activity

Bike rides at Sognefjellet and in Bøverdalen. For vigorous cyclists, Sognefjellet is an eldorado. Sognefjellsvegen begins at Røisheim (513 m above sea level) and winds rather slowly upwards and westwards in the Bøverdalen valley.
After the exit to Leirdalen (730 m above sea level) the climb begins up to the highest point Fanesteinen (1434 m above sea level). The ride offers a fantastic spectacle and good training with the highest peaks of Jotunheimen both on the right and left. If you want a slightly easier trip, we can recommend taking off in Leirdalen, to Leirvassbu about 11 km from Røisheim. Then about 15 km on private well worked gravel road. We recommend a cup of coffee and maybe a small hike from Leirvassbu. An alternative is a slightly easier bike ride from Røisheim to Lom via Solsidevegen. If you do not have a bike, you can rent a bike in Lom.

River pot holes

Summer activity

Right next to Røisheim, on the old bridge towards the homestead, at the right water level you can see beautiful potholes dug by the river Bøvra.

Potholes occur when stones are left in depressions in the rock in the river course and the force of the river grinds out holes in the rock. A great experience just 100 meters from the yard at Røisheim.
